Meh, One level dip at lv 1 in a Martial class isn't always TERRIBLE choice but you're pretty much regretting it by the time you reach Lv 5. Its even worse in Pathfinder because Unless you're a Half elf you're loosing out on your favored class bonuses in your actual main class.

Eh, he seems to have enough synergies between his abilities to make it work for him. Plus clerics can make a better use of martial prowess than most other spell-casting classes.

"Each character begins play with a single favored class of his choosing - typically, this is the same class as the one he chooses at 1st level." - Core Rulebook, p31, Favored Class.

Absolutely nothing in there *forcing* you to make your first level class your favored one. Sounds like you have some more class combinations to enjoy now. :)

Rogue/ranger/arcane archer. OP build path involving some trick to getting extra skill points, improved evasion, and a bottomless quiver of +5 magically summoned force damage arrows.

Also, with a few feats, and the right gear, you can get an effective range of 500 yards at level 15. This officially makes you able to snipe out a beholder's eyes before it can even get in range.

I love a good sniper build, but it seems like long range never comes up with my GMs. Enclosed spaces and conflicts like ambushes that trigger at close range seem to be the norm.

While that's true, you have not lived until youhave seen the face of a DM when you render a beholder utterly harmless by sniping off its eyestalks. From the far end of a city block.

That beholder was supposed to be a miniboss. I soloed it with a bow, and a barstool. I would have used my swords, but they were literally in the shop. The party mage was enchanting them.

I wish I could've seen the looks on my GM's face when he gave us some large-scale warfare while piloting superheavy mech walkers, but such is the price of online gaming. Imperial Knights trumping Daemon Engines is one thing, (though an exploding crit with my sidearm that did something like 3 times the normal damage being negated by the target's armor+toughness made even him sad) but immobilizing an entire armored column of tanks before they can get a shot off and then wrecking one with my sidearm from well outside its supposed effective range was one of my favorite moments in the campaign.
Vaporizing a daemon in one round before it or anyone else got a turn was pretty good too.
